Samsung S95D OLED TV Review

Samsung's S95D represents a genuine leap forward for OLED TVs, and the key innovation is immediately visible — or rather, invisible. The matte anti-glare coating on the screen virtually eliminates reflections that have plagued OLED TVs since their inception. In a bright room with windows behind the couch, where a standard OLED would show distracting reflections, the S95D shows... your content. It's transformative.

The QD-OLED panel underneath is equally impressive. Quantum Dot technology combined with OLED creates colors that are simply more vibrant and lifelike than standard WOLED panels. Reds are deeper, greens are more vivid, and the overall color volume is noticeably wider. Side by side with an LG C4, the Samsung's colors pop more while still looking natural.

Black levels are perfect — as expected from any OLED — with absolutely zero blooming around bright objects in dark scenes. This makes the S95D exceptional for movie watching, especially in darker rooms where the contrast can truly shine.

The Slim One Connect Box is a practical feature that's easy to underestimate until you install the TV. All HDMI ports, USB connections, and the power cable connect to a separate box that can be hidden behind furniture. Only a single thin cable runs from the box to the TV. For wall-mounting, this is invaluable — no cluster of cables running down the wall.

Gaming performance is outstanding. With 144Hz native refresh rate, VRR support via FreeSync Premium Pro, and incredibly low input lag, the S95D is one of the best gaming TVs available. The Samsung Gaming Hub provides easy access to cloud gaming services, and the Game Bar overlay lets you monitor performance stats without leaving your game.

The built-in audio is surprisingly good for a TV this thin. The 70W 4.2.2 channel system with Object Tracking Sound+ creates a more immersive soundstage than most TV speakers. You'll still want a proper soundbar for the best experience, but for casual viewing, the built-in speakers are more than adequate.

The main criticism is the lack of Dolby Vision support. Samsung backs HDR10+ instead, which means content from services like Netflix and Apple TV+ that favor Dolby Vision won't get the most advanced HDR treatment. For most viewers, the difference is subtle, but it's worth noting if you're particular about HDR formats.
